Join us this Fall of 2017! We will be hosting seven FSM Community Collaborative events which will be held once per month throughout the 2017-2018 school year in MDHHS offices in each of the FSM Regions. FSM Community Collaboratives bring together students with experience in foster care, policymakers, professionals, and business leaders in each of the regions to directly connect students and professionals to resources and information.

Continue ReadingOn Friday, August 5th, 2016 the halls of Lansing Community College’s West Campus echoed with energy and excitement surrounding the first ever Michigan Young Leader Advocacy Summit. Youth with experience in foster care gathered to network, share life stories, and advocate for changes in statewide policies that affect them. Through a series of breakout sessions and discussions, youth spoke directly to supportive adults, professionals, policymakers, and influencers on behalf of all young people with experience in foster care. These young leaders shared their experiences and perspectives on how to improve the implementation of policies that affect school stability, extension of foster care support beyond 18, and transition planning for young people who age out of foster care.
