Supporting Students in Foster Care

Students from foster care often have a key component for success missing in their lives: stability.

Relationships with peers, family, support systems, professionals, and educators are often terminated due to placement changes.  To help students succeed in education and prepare for successful transitions to postsecondary education and career, educators and professionals can provide consistent support, particularly through knowledge.

This resource, available through the Texas Education Agency, provides information regarding:

  • Stability
  • Challenges and obstacles for students from foster care (academic, behavioral, logistical)
  • Relationships
  • Challenges for schools
  • School-based interventions
  • Fostering Connections to Success and Increasing Adoptions Act of 2008
