Getting Healthy, Getting Happy
In this issue of Represent Magazine, find out ways to be healthy.
Join Dr. Yvonne Unrau, Ph.D, LMSW, and Katelyn Root, MSW, BA, as they highlight findings from a pilot research study that took place at the Seita Scholars Program during early 2016. The purpose of the study was to learn more about perceptions about mental health challenges experienced by college students who have foster care histories. The main research questions explored topics of resiliency, seeking professional support in times of need, and relationships with helping professionals. This webinar will also highlight mindfulness-centered body-based strategies to addressing mental health stressors that are being piloted at Western Michigan University. Students are learning how to use breathing and body-sensing exercises to manage mental health stressors proactively. We will discuss examples of body-based strategies and discuss the benefits and challenges of implementing mindfulness-center body-based strategies.
